Derek Hough said he is “filled with hope” after his wife, Hayley Erbert, underwent another successful brain surgery.
“With immense relief, gratitude and overwhelming joy I’d like to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery has been successfully completed as planned,” he wrote on Instagram Thursday alongside an image of him sitting next to his wife’s hospital bed.
“My sincere appreciation goes to the exceptional medical team. Their expertise and steady hands were pivotal in this journey, ensuring a smooth and successful surgery.”
The “Dancing With the Stars” judge added that he and Erbert have been “profoundly touched by the outpouring of support and prayers” from everyone and it has “been a source of strength and comfort” for them during this difficult time.
“This surgery marks a significant milestone in my wife’s recovery journey, and your support has played a crucial role in getting us here,” Hough wrote.
“We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community.”

On Wednesday, Hough, 38, announced that his wife, 29, was undergoing a second surgery “to replace a large portion of her skull that was removed during her craniectomy.”
Earlier this month, Erbert was hospitalized after she “became disoriented and was taken to the hospital” at the end of their show in Washington, D.C., Dec. 6.
The “So You Think You Can Dance” alum underwent emergency brain surgery after doctors diagnosed her “with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, an intracranial hematoma is a collection of blood within the brain tissue or underneath the skull, which then presses on the brain.
The complication is usually caused by a blood vessel in the brain that bursts, typically as a result of a head trauma from a car accident or a fall.
While Hough did not mention what possible head trauma his wife could have sustained, the couple was involved in a “scary” car crash in the mountains last December.
At the time, Erbert said she and the six-time “Dancing With the Stars” champ — who wed in August — were “both okay” following the accident. However, she was a “little banged up” and had “a swollen face and four stitches above [her] eyebrow.”
